baby steps
When we want to make a change, our number one mistake is trying to change everything all at once. We make a giant leap, fail disastrously, and decide that change is impossible, after all.
What if we tried to change one little thing, instead? We’d succeed, because it’s easy to make a small change. That tiny success would fill us with hope (and dopamine), and we’d be motivated to make another little change. Small steps would get us so much further than that giant leap.
I remind clients and myself, every single day, to break a major goal into baby steps. And then I warn against needing those steps to be perfect. As long as you’re moving in the right direction, it’s okay that you still haven’t arrived.
Baby steps. And direction, not perfection.
